Young Lords: Puerto Rican Movement.

The Young Lords

The Young Lords

The Young Lords was a Puerto Rican nationalist group that was active in several United States cities, mostly Chicago and New York. The Young Lords started off a street gang around Lincoln Park in Chicago. When they saw that urban renewal was throwing their families in the street, and police abuses getting crazy, they got involved in the Division Street Riots in 1966. Jose “Cha Cha” Jiminez one of the founding members, while incarcerated began studying texts from Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., Lenin, and Chairman Mao. Upon his release, he then began to reform the Young Lords to a political human rights movement. The Puerto Rican equivalent to the Black Panther Party. Check It…Holla.
