Drug Compound Kills Breast Cancer Stem Cells.

U.S. researchers have discovered a compound that can kill breast cancer stem cells, a master cell that resists conventional treatment and may explain why many cancers grow back.  The discovery came using a new method of screening for drugs that specifically target and kill cancer stem cells.  The problem is that cancer stem cells are rare and difficult to study in labs because they quickly change in to other types of cells. And they are hard to kill.

Undoing The Segregation.

reeves_prison_uprising1

The riot that trashed a Southern California prison and injured 175 inmates began with a fight between black and Hispanic gang members, a reminder of the difficulty of race relations behind bars. In America’s largest state prison system black, Hispanic, Asian and white gangs generally don’t mix. Last fall, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation began desegregating two prisons in the Sierra foothills. They are not yet fully integrated, and officials haven’t started on any other prisons. Also, powerful race-based gangs oppose integration and have threatened inmates who participate.

Antidepressant Use Rising To The Top.

SERT_dist_antidep

In a revealing report, it’s said that the use of antidepressant drugs in the United States doubled from 1996 and 2005.  About 6% of people were prescribed in 1996- 13 million people, to 10% or 27 million people in 2005. More than 164 million prescriptions were written in 2008 for antidepressants, totaling $9.6 billion. The survey did not look at why, but it may be more socially acceptable to be diagnosed with and treated for depression. The availability of new drugs may also be a factor. But what’s the deal? Researchers say that antidepressants do little help, but they are marketed, dam near shoved down our throats..why? Who benefits from medicated masses?

An AP reporter watched soldiers shoot their way into the mosque and then raked those holed up inside. The reporter later counted 50 bodies inside the building and another 50 in the courtyard. Militants are reported to be seeking to impose Islamic Sharia law throughout the muti-religious country. Nigeria’s 140 million people are nearly evenly divided between Christians, who predominate in the south, and primarily northern-based Muslims.

Cocaine, Big In “The Heartland”.

It seems that while all eyes are on the border and overseas, drug rings and cartel associates are putting it down right in the middle of America. In places such as Watertown, Wisconsin Mexican drug gangs have moved in and set up shop, much to the shock of our Caucasian American brethren. It’s a story that echoes elsewhere, the U.S. Justice Dept. says more than 200 U.S. cities have seen cartel-related drug smuggling. Keep watch.

With meth lab seizures on the rise, cases are piling up, drawing attention to the problem of meth contamination which can permeate drywall, insulation, carpets and air ducts causing respiratory ailments and other health problems. Also causing financial problems as it takes thousands of dollars to clean up the toxins and medical bills.
