Largest ID Theft Scheme, Man Charged.

Federal prosecutors charged a Miami man with the largest case of credit and debit card data theft ever in the United States, accusing the one-time government informant of stealing 130 million accounts on top of the 40 million he stole previously.  Albert Gonzalez, 28, broke his own record for identity theft by hacking into retail networks.  Gonzalez is a former informant for the U.S. Secret Service who helped the agency hunt hackers. The agency later found out that he had also been working with criminals and feeding them information on ongoing investigations. The new gangsta, cyber style.

Hackers Form On Government!

It’s been reported that over the 4th Of July weekend, numerous government agency web sites which included The Treasury Department, Secret Service, Federal Trade Commission and Transportation Department were all under cyber attacks. A similar attack also happened in South Korea, knocking out many government web sites such as the presidential Blue House, the Defense Ministry, the National Assembly, Shihan Bank, Korea Exchange Bank and top Internet portal Naver. U.S. officials refused to discuss details of the attacks. Amy Kudwa, spokeswoman for the Homeland Security Department said the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team issued a notice to federal departments and other partner organizations and “advised them of steps to take to help mitigate against such attacks.” This has been called a sophisticated attack and unusually lengthy, considering they also attacked the agency that’s responsible for fighting cyber crime!! The first suspect is North Korea.

The Web Can Be Shutdown!

This new proposal intends to give the President the power to shut down the Internet in case of emergency. Of course only he will determine whether there is an emergency. This past Wednesday Senators John Rockefeller (D-W Va.) and Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) introduced a bill to start the Office of the National Cybersecurity Advisor, an arm of the Executive Branch that would have the power to monitor and control Internet traffic to protect against threats to critical cyber infrastructure.  “All In The Interest Of National Security”,watch this very closely the steps are being taken.

Facebook Hacker Seeking Passwords.

Cyber hustlers getting on Facebook hacking it and posing as the victim. I myself am a Facebook member, and I don’t approach it like MySpace; Facebook is a little more personal, with re-connections to old classmates and estranged family members etc. People also get a lot of glimpses of who you are and what you’re doing, and you never know who’s watching hating or showing love. And any time you put personal info out there, there’s a big chance someone out there just might come across it. The “Internet Age”, gotta love it!!
